Each year the College Council, the Penrhos College Foundation and the Penrhos College Alumni Inc. award a number of bursaries.

  • Foundation Bursaries are available to students entering Years 7 and 8.
  • Penrhos College Alumni Bursaries are available to students entering Year 11, and students must be daughters of financial Alumni members.
  • The Michael Boud Isolated Children’s Bursary is available to a Year 7 or 8 student and is awarded every two years (available for 2013 entry).
  • The Jean Atkinson Bursary is available to a boarding student every two years entering Year 11(next available for entry in 2014).

Foundation Bursaries

Two bursaries providing a varying percentage remission on tuition fees are awarded to girls whose parents may be unable, for financial reasons, to send or continue to send their daughter to Penrhos College.  The bursaries are awarded after an interview with the Principal and a Penrhos College Foundation representative

Recipients are expected to contribute to and benefit from a Penrhos education by being academically able or by showing ability in co-curricular areas.

Michael Boud Isolated Children’s Bursary

This bursary is awarded to a student from a remote region who is undertaking her schooling via the School of the Air. This bursary provides 50% remission on boarding and tuition fees from Years 7 or 8 – 12 inclusive. Recipients are selected via academic scholarship testing, and are expected to contribute to and benefit from a Penrhos College education through participation in academic and co-curricular activities. Jean Atkinson Memorial Bursary (Year 11 Boarder)

Awarded every second year to a girl wishing to enter Year 11 as a Boarder.  The bursary covers $1,000 per year towards tuition and boarding fees and is awarded after an interview with the Principal.  The bursary is available for entry in 2014.

Penrhos College Alumni – M B Way Bursary

Named after the College’s founding Principal, Mrs Margaret Way, this bursary is awarded annually to the Year 10 daughter or grand-daughter of a financial life member of the Alumni Association of at least three years standing. 
The bursary covers 25% remission of tuition fees for Years 11 and 12. 

The criteria for selection include academic ability, citizenship qualities, involvement in sport and /or the creative and performing arts.

Selection is made on the basis of the applicant’s written application, her second semester report for Year 9, a report from her Year 10 teachers and an interview with a Penrhos College Alumni selection committee.

The current MB Way Bursary will remain, as is, and be offered from 2010 to 2012. The last recipient will be in Year 12 in 2014.
