Boarding buzz - Term 1

02 April 2026

By Liz Langdon, Head of Boarding

What a wonderful term we've had in boarding. It is a pleasure to reflect on the fun, character-building discoveries and positive connections that have taken place within our community.

The start of a BOARDER'S journey

Right from day one, our students were actively getting involved in a range of events and activities to help build connections and have fun!

To help our new boarders settle in and forge new connections, our wonderful Year 12 boarders ran a "Get to know us and boarding" session. Activities included an outing to Yochi on Mends Street, a walk along the river with CBD views and a shared movie night in the Boarding House.

closed weekend

Another tradition as Penrhos is our 'Closed Weekend' for boarders at the end of Week 1, where all stay together in the Boarding House for Friday night and all of Saturday.

Filled with enthusiasm and energy, our boarders aross all age groups were seen talking, laughing and getting involved in activities.

Friday night was spent watching the sunset, and enjoying the beautiful Karla Bidi light installations as part this year's Perth Festival.

On Saturday, we headed to Outback Splash. There were group challenges, lots of fun in the pool as well as time on the side to relax and connect with each other.  Our boarders wrapped up the day with a special meal and a movie and it's fair to say, we all walked away with precious memories.

And then there was more of course...

The weekends in boarding are BIG! So far this year students have gone ice-skating, watched the Dockers (both AFL and AFLW), played netball, spent a day to Aqua Park, gone to the movies and shopping...the list goes on!

A big thank you to our wonderful boarding team, who support our students every day with meaningful activities and support.

It's been a wonderful Term 1 and I look forward to what Term 2 has in store.
