Our Dance and Drama program at Penrhos empowers students to express themselves, build confidence and collaborate with others in meaningful ways.
With a blend of performance, production and theory, Dance and Drama students are supported to discover their creative voice – whether that’s stepping onto the stage or exploring behind the scenes.
DANCE AND DRAMA PROGRAM
In Year 7, all students take part in one term of Dance and one term of Drama, regardless of previous experience. These engaging, practical subjects offer a refreshing break from the desk, helping students build confidence, creativity and self-expression in a supportive environment.
From Year 8 onwards, Dance and Drama become elective subjects. Students explore performance, technique, improvisation and composition, while developing their own creative voice.
In Years 9 and 10, the Theatre Studies elective gives students the opportunity to step behind the scenes learning about costume and lighting design, stage management and production roles. This subject offers an exciting entry point for students passionate about theatre but not necessarily performance-focused.
In Years 11 and 12, students can pursue Dance or Drama through ATAR or General pathways. These subjects build skills in communication, critical thinking and creativity – valuable in any future endeavours.

What are the performance opportunities at Penrhos?
Penrhos Dance and Drama students have numerous chances to showcase their creativity and talent beyond the classroom:
- School productions are optional and audition-based, offering a professional performance experience for those eager to take the stage.
- Dance Showcases and Drama class performances are held throughout the year, giving students from all year groups the opportunity to present their work, including collaborative pieces with Wesley College.
- Penrhos also participates in the annual IGSSA Performing Arts Showcase
TOURS AND ENRICHMENT
Every two years, Penrhos students are invited to take part in our Dance and Drama tour program. These tours alternate between international destinations such as New York, and domestic performance tours within Australia. These experiences offer students a broader perspective on the performing arts and a taste of what it means to be part of a global artistic community.
