Our Inclusive Education program at Penrhos is grounded in inclusion, individualised learning and a belief that every student deserves to feel seen, supported and successful.
At Penrhos, we are committed to supporting the growth of every learner – whether they need additional assistance, personalised strategies or greater academic challenge to thrive.
INDIVIDUALISED SUPPORT FOR ALL STUDENTS
Our dedicated Inclusive Education team – made up of specialist teachers and education assistants – works across all year levels and curriculum areas to support students with diagnosed disabilities, learning difficulties, additional needs or those at educational risk.
We provide individualised programs and strategies to help students engage with the curriculum in a way that suits their needs, strengths and learning style. This includes:
- In-class differentiation and curriculum adjustments
- Modified programs where required
- Targeted support in literacy and numeracy
- One-on-one and small group instruction
- We work closely with classroom teachers and parents to ensure each student can learn alongside her peers with dignity, confidence and clarity.
English and Mathematics enhancement
In Years 7 and 8, students may be invited to join English and/or Mathematics Enhancement classes – smaller, focused groups designed to fill learning gaps and build foundational skills. These classes take place instead of one elective and provide tailored instruction in a calm, supportive setting.
In Years 9 and 10, students may be invited to join LINKS (Literacy Intervention and Numeracy Key Skills) – an elective designed to strengthen core literacy, numeracy and study skills. Students attend three LINKS lessons each week in place of one elective, receiving targeted instruction to build confidence, close learning gaps and prepare for success across all subjects, including OLNA.
We also have a specialist Literacy teacher who ensures students meet the literacy requirements needed to access ATAR or General pathways in Secondary School.
Gifted education and extension
Penrhos supports learners at both ends of the academic spectrum. Our Gifted Education Specialist oversees enrichment and extension opportunities, ensuring high-potential students are identified, challenged and inspired. Differentiated programming is delivered within the classroom and through targeted activities that promote depth, complexity and critical thinking.
Enrichment and co-curricular opportunities
Beyond the classroom, Penrhos offers a wide range of co-curricular programs that encourage students to explore their interests and stretch their abilities. These include:
- 🎭 Music ensembles and drama performances
- 🏀 Sporting teams and competitions
- 🧠 Academic clubs, such as:
- Future Problem Solving
- Philosophy Club
- Chess
- Debating
- Maths Mentor
- STEM
A NURTURING, INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY
We understand that parents may be seeking reassurance that their daughter will be welcomed, understood and supported. Whether a student is navigating a known learning difficulty or still discovering how they learn best, Penrhos provides a safe, nurturing environment where girls are empowered to thrive.
Our approach is always individualised and collaborative, working in partnership with families to ensure every student can access the full Penrhos experience and feel confident in her journey.
