Generations in Jazz Festival 2026
by Tushitha Sriram, Year 12
In Term 1, our 29 touring musicians had an unforgettable experience at the Generations in Jazz Festival in Mount Gambier.
Upon arrival, we explored Adelaide before travelling to the festival, where we enjoyed a standout performance by the Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra with Belgian trumpet player Bert Joris. Before long, it was our turn to perform with Coltrane Jazz, Basie Band, Vox and the Combined Band with Wesley. Another highlight of the tour was watching a performance by Tower of Power, an American R&B and funk band that’s been performing for 58 years! We also attended workshops and the awards concert, with Vox achieving an outstanding 3rd place in their category.
A huge thank you to our Music staff for making this incredible experience possible.
We're so proud of all we achieved together!
Vox placed 3rd in their division, going up against 26 schools from all around Australia.
Coltrane Jazz Band placed 5th in division 3.3 (18 schools).
Combined Wesley/Penrhos Big Band placed 5th in division 3.1 (21 schools in this division).
Basie Band (Year 7 and 8 students) preformed in the non-competitive division of this festival, delivering a highly successful performance.
