Penrhos College leading the way in co-curricular programs

30 March 2023

Student life at Penrhos College is diverse and vibrant, challenging our girls to grow into well-rounded women at their own pace.

With more than 60 co-curricular programs and activities hosted at our Perth all-girls school campus or offsite in conjunction with some of WA’s leading sporting institutions, every student is encouraged to thrive in a way that suits their individual strengths and interests.

There are certainly no dull days at Penrhos.

Creating all-round students at Penrhos College

The best Perth high schools are those that celebrate students’ individuality.

We believe a young person’s growth occurs both in and out of the classroom, on and off-campus, in an environment free from gender stereotypes and expectations.

Our diverse programs cover the whole person paradigm, exercising mental toughness in stretching beyond individual comfort zones (both physically and mentally) as our students strive to achieve their personal best.

Mind

Penrhos girls can join a wide range of challenging social and supportive co-curricular programs, beginning in Junior School.

STEM Club and Future Problem Solving get our girls thinking about society’s future, while Chess Club, mathematics programs, debating, and academic challenges offer individual pathways to activate their minds.

Heart

Music, dance and drama move us all, from the very young to the very old. The College offers more than a dozen performance arts and music development programs to spark creative flair from the youngest age.

Whether for enjoyment, skills development, or to compete against other talented Perth high schools, our girls can pursue their artistic passions from Junior School right through to Year 12.

Body

WA is a sporty state. Our co-curricular programs involve healthy competition with other Perth private schools – or simply move in a healthy way – what does this mean?. Research consistently shows that participation in physical activity improves cognitive performance and brain health and Penrhos aims to provide students with every opportunity to join in and find something they enjoy.

Penrhos participates in 12 Independent Girls’ Schools Sporting Association (IGSSA) sports, giving our girls a taste of structured competition at the top level.

We also offer nine non-IGSSA sports, from yogalates to rock climbing, fitness classes to women’s self-defence, for girls to stay active their own way.

As the only girls’ school in Perth partnered with the Perth Football Club, Penrhos footballers also have a unique opportunity to train in an AFL-facilitated program.

Spirit

Spirit programs complete our whole person paradigm, encouraging intrinsic reflection and extrinsic service.

Junior School girls can explore the ‘Taste, sounds and sights’ program which focuses on a different culture each term, or explore their faith in Bible Study. For Secondary School girls, we facilitate giving back through the Learn, Live and Give Service Learning and Community Service programs.

The only Perth all-girls school participating in Round Square

Just as important as the knowledge they gain from teachers and peers is the experience and confidence our girls get from co-curricular programs.

Penrhos is the only Perth girls high school involved in Round Square, an international network of 200 schools that:

“…connect and collaborate to offer world-class programmes and experiences that develop global competence, character and confidence in our students.”

Along with other WA schools like Scotch College and Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School, Penrhos girls participate in programs that challenge students to be the best they can be.

Round Square also opens doors to study overseas. There might be no better path than venturing abroad (once COVID restrictions permit) in the quest to become an all-around student and global citizen. Virtual collaboration activities allow Round Square schools to stay connected, with online sessions providing students to work together on projects and discussions.
