02 April 2026

By Matt Zambon, Head of Music

It has been another incredibly busy and rewarding period for Music at Penrhos, with students across both Junior and Secondary Schools embracing a wide range of performance and rehearsal opportunities. It is wonderful to reflect on the commitment, courage, and enthusiasm shown by our young musicians!

Year 4 and 6 teatime concert

Our Year 4 and Year 6 students delighted audiences at their recent Teatime Concerts with a series of fantastic performances. Showcasing both developing and refined skills, students demonstrated great courage as they performed for their peers, parents, and teachers. These concerts were an excellent celebration of the impressive musical growth and achievements of our Junior School musicians. Well done to all involved for your hard work and confident performances!

secondary school interhouse music eisteddfod

The Secondary School Interhouse Music Eisteddfod was a tremendous celebration of musical talent, with an incredible 142 performances scheduled across the event. Students from all year levels took to the stage, contributing to a vibrant and diverse showcase of music-making across the Secondary School.

arts day house singing competition

The Arts Day House Singing Competition brought the entire Secondary School together in a powerful display of unity and school spirit. Students' time and effort in rehearsing and preparing their performances resulted in an energetic and engaging competition.

We extend our thanks to the House Captains and all students who supported the organisation and preparation of their Houses. Our adjudicators, Ms Haran and Ms Ogilvie, had the challenging task of judging the performances, and we thank them for their time and insight.

The final standings were:
1st place – Rome
2nd place – Athens
3rd place – Sparta
4th place – Troy

Congratulations to all students for your enthusiastic performances!

Generations in jazz

Preparations are well underway for our upcoming tour to Mount Gambier for the annual Generations in Jazz Festival. Students have been working diligently in rehearsals, refining their ensemble skills and preparing exciting performance programs.

This year, Penrhos will be represented by Coltrane Jazz, Basie Band, and the Combined Wesley/Penrhos Big Band, as well as a Jazz Vocal group featuring singers from the Penrhos Vox ensemble.

Our touring musicians will take to the skies in Week 2 next term, and we wish all involved the very best as they prepare for this fantastic opportunity.

Good luck to all our jazz musicians!

MUsic camp

The annual Music Camp, held over the Week 8 weekend, was a highlight of the term, bringing together 117 musicians from Years 7–12. The camp provided a valuable opportunity for students to immerse themselves in rehearsals, develop ensemble skills, and build lasting friendships.

Highlights of the camp included the much-anticipated talent quest and quiz night, both organised and led by our Year 12 students, as well as the final camp concert for parents. This concluding performance was a wonderful showcase of the hard work and progress made by students over the course of the camp.

Congratulations to all students and staff involved in making this year’s Music Camp such a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
