Our Health and Physical Education (HPE) program at Penrhos mixes physical activity, personal development and health education to help students grow in confidence, resilience and strength.

Guided by a passionate team of educators, we provide an inclusive environment where movement is a powerful medium for learning. Students develop the skills, knowledge and values to make positive, informed choices for their own wellbeing and for contributing to the health of their communities.

Penrhos HPE fosters an environment where every student can discover wellbeing and joy in movement that lasts a lifetime.

HEALTH AND PE PROGRAM

All students in Years 7 to 10 participate in three compulsory Health and Physical Education (HPE) lessons each week, in line with national curriculum guidelines. These include:

  • Two Physical Education lessons focused on developing skills, movement, teamwork and participation in a diverse range of sports and fitness activities.
  • One Health lesson exploring topics such as mental wellbeing, respectful relationships, personal safety and healthy lifestyles. Health lessons also incorporate wellbeing activities that encourage students to reflect on their physical and emotional health in a supportive environment.

In Year 9 and 10, electives include Outdoor Education and Sports Performance:

  • Outdoor Education is designed to build leadership, resilience and connection with the outdoors. Activities include:
    • Year 9: sailing, rock climbing, orienteering, snorkelling, canoeing
    • Year 10: scuba diving, kayaking, mountain biking, abseiling and the opportunity to complete a Recreational Skipper’s Ticket
  • Sports Performance blends theory and practical learning focused on strength and conditioning, athletic development and the science behind performance.

In Years 11 and 12, students can choose ATAR, General and VET subjects to pursue their interests and career aspirations.

Whether students are aiming for competitive success or simply discovering the joy of movement, we offer inclusive and alternative pathways to meet every learner where they are and to help them move forward with confidence.

CONFIDENCE THROUGH MOVEMENT

Our Health and PE staff are passionate, dedicated and focused on ensuring that every student feels welcome, capable and engaged – regardless of skill level or sporting background. Whether a student is naturally athletic or simply discovering the joy of movement, we prioritise fun, inclusion and personal growth in every lesson.

Beyond the classroom, Penrhos students have access to a wide range of competitive sporting opportunities through our involvement in IGSSA (Independent Girls Schools Sports Association of Western Australia). Through this network, students can participate in after-school and interschool competitions that develop athletic ability and inspire teamwork, confidence and a lifelong love of sport.
